Editorial: Why Biden’s approval rating is low

President Joseph Biden has been in office for 11 months and has abysmal approval ratings which are currently in the high 30s. Most Americans disapprove of his presidency, with his disapproval rating in the high 50s. This is a direct result of Biden’s inaction as president. Biden has done nothing during his presidency other than go after far-right extremists that stormed the capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

To simply state, Biden is not an effective president whatsoever. When there has been a problem in his presidency, he has deflected responsibility and has dumped the issue at hand onto other individuals, especially Vice President Kamala Harris who has also done nothing to resolve issues. Biden campaigned on change and unity, but has brought neither to the American people, and they are starting to wake up to that fact.

Biden has had many blunders as president, one of which is pulling out of Afghanistan. Biden broke a peace treaty, left billions of dollars worth of U.S. military hardware in Afghanistan, and left Afghanistan to be controlled by the Taliban, who 20 years ago played a large role in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Biden also launched a drone strike as an attempt of retaliation that killed only innocent civilians and multiple children. After the full pullout, Biden declared victory in a short speech where he seemingly could only talk about himself and his political party.

Biden has also had a massive crisis at the border where shortly into his presidency there were swarms of illegal immigrants coming through the southern border. The first thing Biden did was dump the crisis on Vice President Kamala Harris. Instead of deporting them or letting them into the country, Harris decided to set up tents and keep immigrants locked there in unsanitary conditions. The tents were overpopulated and underfunded. The handling of this crisis could not have been worse and Biden’s approval rating drop tremendously during the crisis.

Biden has shown time and time again that he is not thinking for himself, but rather he is a puppet being used by his party. It is almost every week that Biden says something seriously concerning. Biden has even admitted that he has an approved list of journalists that he can answer questions from. He has shown many other times, as well, that he is being told what to do instead of being a leader. The American people do not like when there is such a weak president that instead of acting independently, only does what his party tells him he can do.

The only correct action that Biden has taken during his presidency is attempting to prosecute the far-right extremists that stormed the capitol on January 6, 2021. This may be the only thing saving his approval rating from plummeting even further. Biden has done everything he could to make sure the insurrectionists get punished for their attack not only on the nation’s capitol but on the democratic process in general.

Overall Biden has had an underwhelming presidency of little action after campaigning on change and unity. He has not done anything truly beneficial to the American people and has continuously hurt the pocketbook and pride of Americans, and for that his approval rating reflects these actions.
