Who: All OHS students and teachers
-
What: St. Mary’s annual food drive
-
Where: OHS
-
When: October 1st – November 1st
-
Why: Lower the amount of hunger in Arizona and give back to our community
The food drive is a yearly event at OHS. Students and teachers have the opportunity to donate to their community.
Donations include: Beans (canned or dried), canned fruit and vegetables, canned soups, stews, chili and pastas, cereal (whole grain or low sugar), diapers (children and adults), juice (canned, plastic or boxed), peanut butter, rice, and tuna (canned or vacuum packed). You can also donate money.
“We always come in second to Mountain Ridge. O’Connor has held a food drive every year since the second year it opened. People really need the food, especially kids. If every student and staff member donated at least $1.00 and one can of food, we could make a significant difference in people’s lives,” said Melissa Mara, a biology teacher at OHS.
Mara is the director of Interact, a club at OHS. Interact is in charge of the food drive.
Mara said that the winning class will be rewarded.
“Usually the top two final winning classes that donate the most items and money will be given donuts. Also, weekly front of the line passes will be handed for the top class of that week,” said Mara.
