The Agassiz Chairlift is an enjoyable ride located in Flagstaff, Arizona. The chairlift takes you up the San Francisco Peaks and back down. It’s about a half an hour ride each way with amazing views. It’s only about a two or three hour drive from Phoenix and a great way to beat the heat!
View (5 out of 5)
Listening to nature and relaxing on the bench lets you enjoy all the beautiful trees and mountains. Once you get to the top, which is 11,500 feet in elevation, you are able to get off and walk around. You will experience an unforgettable panoramic view. This includes: the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, buildings and bunkers that held ammunition during World War II and breathtaking views of the mountains and trees around you. You can hike up the mountain and explore, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Weather (5 out of 5)
Before you get on, there are warning signs. One warns you about the weather and how rapidly it may change. I wore a light jacket and capris and I was comfortable. It did get a little chilly as I went higher, but it was beautiful. Living in Phoenix, where temperatures are usually around 115°F during the summer, you appreciate any type of cool weather.
Drive (2 out of 5)
The drive was miserable. Going up the mountain to get to the Agassiz Chairlift, the road was super curvy. I sort of got dizzy and car sick. After about 15 minutes of driving up a road with quick turns and a curvy path, I finally got to the top and parked. Being able to get out of the car and walk was such a great feeling.
Experience (4 out of 5)
Overall, I enjoyed the experience. The restrooms were clean, the line wasn’t too long of a wait, the staff were welcoming and helpful, it’s definitely a kid-friendly place. There was a tetherball pole for the kids and disco frisbees. They had a café (which I didn’t eat at), a shop where you can purchase snow gear and there was even a band playing live. The atmosphere was positive and welcoming.
