Every year at OHS there is a new flood of freshmen, all from different schools and places, who come in and get to experience high school. Meeting a variety of people, different dynamics, getting to know one another and high school can be a unique experience for every individual.
“I didn’t really know what to expect going into high school, especially with making new friends and taking harder classes; I kind of went in blind and hoped for the best,” said Kylee Simonich, freshman.
Also, many kids at OHS feel like the environment is overall more positive than others and is uplifting, especially when part of some kind of club or team.
“I genuinely feel like the space and the freedom we have at OC sometimes can make going to school a little easier,” said Trinity Pham, freshman. “I feel like joining STUGO has been one of the best decisions ever. The process was quite hard but it was well deserved because it’s honestly so fun and it’s such a great way to get involved.”
The environment that kids are in every day can really help people stay focused and learn better. If the classroom that a student in does not make one feel comfortable, then it can be harder to stay on task.
“I have so many classrooms that I love learning in which can be rare for kids especially in high school but I really like how much the classrooms are individualized to each teacher and shows that teacher’s personality,” said Brielle Pursell, freshman.
At OHS there are also many different sports teams, including the spirit line. The dynamic of those teams brings people together.
¨Being on Pom has definitely made my high school experience better so far. Just the bond between us all is so special and all of us going to the same school really helps,¨ Pursell said.
So many different memories can be made with people students would have never expected to make memories with, whether it is people from their old school or new people that you meet, the best memories are made in the moment.
“Coming in as a freshman at OHS I would say that it has been such a roller coaster [because] I’ve made so many new friendships and memories that I would never expect to have made and I would just say the experience is so much different compared to middle school,” Pham said.
