It is very common to hear ¨brainrotted¨ terms expressed by this generation. With social media being a large part of today’s world and Generation Z’s childhood, the way they talk sounds almost foreign to older generations. No matter how old you are, 6-7 is a brainrot mostly everyone is familiar with.
With social media, trends change rapidly, and new memes arise almost weekly. Despite the quick-moving public opinion, 6-7 has been around for about 6 or 7 months.
¨I love 6-7, it is an elite brainrot and it’s definitely in the top three, and it’s not three or two,¨ said Rylan Parsley, senior.
While the majority of the students just simply think the meme is funny, others believe that it is deeper than just a joke.
¨Everyone knows about it, it builds a community of togetherness, everyone is on the same page,¨ said Blake Nicholls, freshman.
It’s not uncommon to be sitting in class and hear an outburst of 6-7 or any other brainrot.
¨I’ll be in math class, and the answer could be 6, and then everyone starts saying 7, it takes a while to get back on track if the answer is even close to 6-7,” said Emily Gonzalez, senior.
While Gen Z’s humor seems dumb to adults who don’t understand, teachers at OHS do not have a problem with the joke.
¨I don’t see why people see it’s funny, but it’s not a problem in the classroom, it’s silly, it’s stupid, but my generation had silly and stupid things too, so it’s not a big deal,¨ said Andrew Cardon, math teacher.
Teachers at OHS are relating to the 6-7 jokes rather than getting mad about all the goofiness.
¨I don’t think this is any sillier than what humor my generation had, I really don’t think it’s any better or worse than past ones,¨ said Richard Weyker, social studies teacher.
Unlike other memes, 6-7 has seemed to linger; the joke has even deepened into more advanced brainrot, such as 41.
¨This seems to keep growing like a virus, like it keeps spreading more and more, and people are laughing at it more as time goes on. The more we try to get away from it, the funnier the words seem to get.¨ Weyker said.
¨6-7 has taken over the classrooms and hallways, I think 6-7 is going to stay brainrotted a long time, 6-7 is going to be around for a while, personally, 6-7 is my favorite,” said Kyllan Miller, freshman.
For the future, only time can tell what new brainrot is going to take over the world. People can only wait and see.
¨I don´t think 6-7 is leaving for a long time, it’s just too peak, if I had to say one, the Khaby Lame mechanism is next up,¨ Parsley said.
