Black Phone 2 has been making waves since its release in October 2025. After the first movie was released in 2021, the writers and directors had a lot to live up to. So far, people are saying not only that it lived up to the previous one, but it might have been better, making 140 percent of its 30 million dollar budget back.
The amount of detail and talent that was put into this film is unlike any other. From the different points of view, switching from a more vintage “80s camera” point of view to a modern-day feel, it takes the viewers through different emotional and suspenseful moments throughout the movie that ultimately lead to a very satisfying ending.
Many different sources that include opinions of the public are giving their feedback on the movie. “RogerEbert.com” is calling it a confident, blood-soaked homage to the 1984 Wes Craven’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, while the general public is calling it a “classic sequel.”
The movie is set in 1982, and follows Gwen Blake, played by Madeleine McGraw. She experiences visions, which eventually point to three boys who were murdered at Alpine Lake decades earlier. Finney, Gwen’s brother, who was kidnapped in the previous movie and is now coping, tries to help Gwen.
Later on in the movie, Gwen realizes the woman she has been getting calls from is her mom, Hope, who had passed away years ago from suicide. After an investigation, Gwen and Finney find out where their mom used to go to camp, which happened to be where the boys’ deaths in the second film all pointed toward.
Together, they try to find where the three boys died but face some challenges throughout their journey. After they realized Gwen’s visions were real, The boys started to harm her even in her sleep; this meant they had to be on a constant lookout. In the end, they all worked together to find what they were looking for, and Gwen received a phone call from her mom telling her to cherish her gift of her visions.
All of these events give the movie an overall build of suspense and uncertainty, with many different emotions being brought up from the past and touching more on sensitive subjects like suicide and dangerous nightmares.
Nonetheless, all of these different emotional roller coasters led to a great movie overall, leaving viewers very satisfied and reflecting back on the first movie while gaining more attraction to the second.
