“I think I get along with a wide variety of kids because innately I really do care for their well-being, not just in the class but post high school career as well,” said Mr. Cross, history teacher.
Amaya Kelly is a senior at OHS this year. She is excited to start her second year on The Talon, as the Sports Editor. Amaya joined the newspaper staff as a way to get involved with the student body, and immerse herself in the environment at OHS. She loves to meet new people, and curate stories about things she is passionate about. While not in school, Amaya plays club soccer. She chose to be Sports Editor so she can make sure the sports stories in The Talon showcase all the amazing athletic programs and student-athletes at OHS. Other interests of Amaya include: reading, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.
Ruth Mioc is a senior at Sandra Day O’Connor, and is currently in her third year on The Talon, the first as Design Chief and Opinions Editor. Her decision to join the newspaper was influenced by her lifelong love of writing, and proclivity for crafting stories that incorporate truth and engagement. She has always wanted to publish her work, and be a part of a community that shares her interests; she credits The Talon for giving her the opportunity to do both. Her favorite part of being on the staff, other than writing, is connecting with people through interviews, and researching topics in depth. This year she hopes to continue writing about relevant cultural and current events, and ensure that The Talon is designed and printed flawlessly. Most of her time is spent participating in school activities, but in her free time she enjoys volunteering at her local library, listening to music or seeing it live, and thrifting.
