Varsity:
As the fall football season starts up, the OHS varsity team is back and better than ever. This season, the entire football program is facing an entirely new dynamic based solely around “making the climb,” all thanks to the new coaching staff.
As the season progresses, all the OHS football players are going to be pushed to work intensely, think smarter, and hit harder. The primary goal of the season is for the team to be worked to their greatest potential
“Our teams look solid this year. We’re looking for huge runs, lots of touchdowns, and breaking tackles every other play,” said Tucker Smith, senior.
The new coaching staff is the biggest change the OHS football team has seen in a long time, and this change has benefited the team in ways that old coaches could not even think of.
“This coaching staff was the major change that we needed. They are holding us to a higher standard, one that this team really needed,” said Tyler Johnson, senior.
In past seasons, the OHS varsity football team did not have team chemistry like they do this season. The 2025 OHS football team is moving as one as the season starts up.
“The team’s brotherhood is really good. We’re actually playing together, and we’re not just players playing individually,” said Owen Williams, senior
Overall, the new coaches have allowed the team to become more driven to a common goal and stir up the team spirit.
“Everyone is motivated and is working hard; the new coaching staff is what is motivating us to work hard,” said Jeremy Adeyanjua, junior
The difference between last season and now is that the varsity team is more driven towards success
“We’re really driven, we are really trying to change the narrative of this program and change this culture. I am really excited for this team, I mean, I love the guys around me,” Johnson said.
With the new coaches and new mindset, the OHS football program is striving for success this season.
“The new head coach has a very good scheme for us, we have a good plan for our defense, and our new offensive coaches have really put things in place and where they need to be. Our team is very dedicated and has the same goal: to win,” said Braylen Lopez, sophomore.
JV:
Just like the varsity team, the OHS junior varsity football team is held to a high standard and is no stranger to intense competition. Despite this, the team is ready to overcome and excel this season.
“We have a lot of talent this year; we have come together with a team mentality,” said Dan Currence, sophomore.
Just like the varsity team, the JV level is also facing a new coaching staff and dynamic.
“We are looking constructed and solid this season, I think that’s because of our coaches,” said Matteo Duran, sophomore.
The JV football team follows a motto to motivate them throughout the season, “make the climb,” which helps them find success on the field.
“He really drives us into ‘making the climb,’ he [Coach ] says it all the time, so it has really stuck,” Currence said.
Each player interprets the motto in their own way, but as a team, they see it as the climb to greatness.
“Our coach phrases it to us as climbing a mountain and at the top is greatness, but it’s a climb, so it pushes you far beyond your limit,” Duran said.
With the new coaches and a high standard combined, the OHS JV football team applies this on the field to find victory.
“This season we are more connected, we actually play as a team instead of individuals like last year, the new coaches make it more positive and everyone is just overall connected, on all levels,” said Dallas Slade, sophomore.
Freshman:
It is easy for the freshman team to get lost in the spotlight of varsity, but this season the younger team is ready to give all of their opponents a run for their money.
“We are looking pretty stacked this year- we are working hard and excited to face JV,” said William Spata, freshman.
On the freshman level, there are typically a lot of players on the team, usually enough to have a third or fourth string. This year is no different, and the freshman team is full.
“The amount of players we have is crazy, and all of them are really good. There are just so many players and potential starters, it’s good competition,” said Gabe Holloway, freshman.
One thing that is very clear on the freshman team is their chemistry, and it shines through no matter what.
“I’m excited to watch our great team, whether on the field or on the bench,” said Isaac Rangel, freshman.
