The Lady Eagles badminton team’s season ended this past week. The girls made it to the quarterfinals in the state tournament and finished fifth in state, falling to Chandler High School on October 28th.
“The team has had a fantastic year,” said Paula Cappelletti, coach. “The girls worked hard and it paid off.”
Only in its third year, the badminton program at OHS has worked on technique and communication and has progressed a great deal since it first started out.
“We did very well,” said Helena Yomantas, senior. “We stayed motivated to reach our goal, and we never gave up on what we wanted to achieve as a team.”
Having lost only one game in their regular season to Mountain Ridge, the badminton team’s final record was 13-1.
“Our loss to Mountain Ridge was really frustrating,” said Cassidy Harper, senior. “We just need to work on being mentally there and not letting the other team get to us.”
The 21-girl team built strong bonds through team-outings and parties throughout the season.
“My favorite part was just being with all the girls,” Harper said. “We just hung out and had fun.”
