The OHS girls’ varsity volleyball team competes against the Centennial Coyotes tonight and is the first time the teams have met this season. As a unit OHS is preparing at full force to get another win added to their record on Tuesday.
“We are practicing really hard and doing drills on things we need to work on,” said junior outside hitter/ middle blocker Juliette Cossey.
The game will be at Centennial tonight at 6 p.m. in the school’s main gymnasium.
OHS has had a slow start to the season (2-2) with both losses occurring against the Horizon Huskies. Although this season may not be starting out great, Coach Bill Bellis has maintained a winning record for the last five seasons at O’Connor.
“I think he is a really good coach and he has really stepped up from a bad season last year,” said Cossey.
The team has three captains this year senior outside hitter Kelley Robb, senior libero Amanda Johnson and junior outside hitter Jesse Hover. All three have been with the program at OHS for numerous seasons and are seen as leaders in the eyes of their teammates.
The team is looking forward to a strong season and expects it to be a lot better than last year.
“[We are getting along] really good this year, it’s very different from last year and I am not even kidding,” said Robb.
“I completely agree with Kelley, she is 100 percent accurate” said Johnson.
This season should be a great one was the general census among the numerous volleyball players.
