Streaming services have become the standard way to watch all the shows and movies people want, both new and old. From the rise of Netflix in 2007, to the start of numerous other streaming services like HBO and Hulu, these streaming services are now more popular than ever.
Society has entered a new era of entertainment, and now that there are so many streaming services available, with many different programs to offer, viewers are at no loss of choices and have endless possibilities available at their fingertips. While in theory, streaming sounds like a good idea, over a decade later, some viewers are wondering if it is really as simple as it seems.
With so much content available, some may feel overwhelmed, but that is what features like ‘Netflix’s Top 10 shows and movies’ are for. They tell viewers about the hottest films and shows that they should be watching, giving them the perfect call to action.
This is a vast improvement from how things used to be when many depended on what was in theaters to figure out what they should be watching. It was a great way to see movies with friends and family, but with the rise of streaming, going to the theater has become rarer and rarer.
As streaming continues to grow in popularity, many people do not go to the theater as often as they have in the past. Many do not see a reason to go when one could have a similar experience at home; this became more and more popular after COVID-19 when many theaters shut down, making many people realize the convenience of streaming.
A similar experience has surrounded TV shows where people can find everything they want to watch under streaming, and find out what the newest shows are that they need to give a watch. Streaming has made it more convenient for them to learn about a show and immediately watch it from beginning to end with no issue.
Across all platforms, there are many wonderful choices for everyone to relate to, from Heartstopper, Never Have I Ever, Shadow and Bone, The Summer I Turned Pretty, Daisy Jones and the Six, Wandavision, and so many more.
The unfortunate part is that this many shows are usually spread across a variety of services, which becomes a problem when users are paying for five different subscriptions just so they can keep up with all the new content.
By themselves, the costs of a subscription are inexpensive, but streaming has reached a point where people have to pay for several of them, just to keep up to date with all the newest hits. This strikes a problem when one person is stuck paying for all of them and though sometimes there are package deals, the cost still adds up.
As time has gone on, this problem has been compounded by the rise of “easy” content, where a service will make a movie but not give enough thought to the writing or the characters, seemingly just to make a quick buck. Services like Netflix have fallen victim to this, giving their subscribers rom-coms that have no plot or substance and people cannot help but feel that with these films, the quality of content has gone down.
The issue is that none of these are truly memorable and a few weeks later, people will have forgotten all about them. When they are watching it, they often feel cheated like they are wasting their time on a movie that does not add much to the film scene.
Unfortunately, this leaves people with little choice other than to sift through their shows and be their own judge of if it is something they actually enjoy or if it will just be a giant waste of their time.
Streaming has changed the way the world looks at entertainment, and while in some ways things have improved, in other ways, it has grown so much worse. Through the years, they have proven themselves to be a wonderful addition to people’s lives, but they are not without their negatives.
