There has been a coffee shop that has been under construction for a long period of time. It has been in renovation for about a year. Also, many adminstration people debated who should run it
The school is trying to make the coffee more efficient and less expensive for the student’s. Since a lot of people would get starbucks before school and they would spend around $6 or $8 for coffee.
“ We are going to sell the coffee through cards that you purchase at the bookstore, so it is going to be a cashless experience, and you will bring the punch card, which is $10-15 for ten coffees, so they come out to be $1.50,” said Brianna Spinks, TSW.
The library has been under various stages of closure due to the construction and renovation of both the coffee shop and the library.
“ When the library was remodeled, they built a little coffee station, and it had a window that moved out. Originally, they were going to try and find and bring an outside vendor to run the shop from there, and they spent most of last year on who would do that, and then this year, it shifted to a person inside working on it. Mrs. Rincon and myself are working on that,” Spinks said.
Some teachers want other student’s to see how it feels to work in a school coffee shop and also to teach students.
“I like to show them a little bit of experience, like going into work and see if they like it and see if they get something going for them.” said Rincon, TSW.
The TSW worked hard and they got their inspiration from an idea that they had last year which worked well for the TSW and the teachers.
“Last year or the year before, we did a coffee cart, and it was only for the teachers. So when this whole thing got built-in, we kind of put our heads together, and if we are willing to do this, let’s do it, and I think it would be great for the students, and I think that they would enjoy it,” Rincon said.
Popular coffee shops tend to have a variety of seasonal drinks; something that the students at OHS would enjoy and appreciate.
“We work with Elevate Coffee, so they are being very nice in donating a lot of stuff to us. So, I will have to look at what the seasonal spices are;, I would say pumpkin spice would be around that time, and during the wintertime, it would be peppermint mocha. Those seasonal times, around those seasons, and hopefully some other during the spring,” Rincon said.
Since the library was doing renovations last year, students have been patiently and anxiously waiting for the arrival of the coffee shop.
“We are hoping by October; we just need to get things ready and settled. That is like the closest we can get. I do not want to give a certain date or anything in case it doesn’t,” Rincon said.
Many students and administration have greatly contributed to ensuring this coffee shop is working and all set for the students. Certain students are going above and beyond in trying to help out the coffee shop by making posters around campus.
“I want to add the eagle atmosphere with it, and with the inspiration of helping room 415 knowing that they are doing the coffee shop, it also made me want to continue to help them with more stuff,” said Alexander Peter, junior.
Once the coffee shop is open, there will always be room for improvement, like adding music or more chairs inside the library for seating. These are all small things that they could add when they open up.
“We need the coffee shop feel of it, like you said we need the music, nice little seats that we have. Anything that represents the coffee shop feel,” Peter said.
The teachers were looking for volunteers to help out with the coffee shop so that they could get more assistance with helping them out. They’re students who helped the coffee shop and the TSW with many things.
“I noticed that they were helping with the coffee shop, and maybe you know that might be cool to help them learn the atmosphere and how to sell drinks,” Alex said.
