Stugo reveals Sadie Hawkins spirit week days

Emily DiTomasso, Arts and Entertainment editor

The Sadie Hawkins dance was named after the Li’l Abner comic strip Sadie Hawkins, created by cartoonist Al Capp.

According to Kathy Padden, the original Sadie Hawkins was a day for women to chase around men until they catch their soon to be husband.

Today, Sadie Hawkins is not a day for forced engagements, it is a dance where the girl decides who goes to the dance with them instead of waiting for a boy to ask them.

This year, OHS will be holding a Sadie’s dance on Feb. 20 at the Glendale Civic Center from 7 to 10. However, not everyone will be allowed to attend the dance.

On Feb. 19, there will be grade checks and if a student is failing, not only are they not allowed to go, there will be no refunds for tickets.

The week of Sadie Hawkins OHS will be having a spirit week to get ready for the dance. The spirit days are:

Tuesday- OC admin student vs. staff

Wednesday- Good vs. Evil (underclassmen- good and upperclassmen-evil)

Thursday- Decade Day:Seniors- 60’s, Juniors- 50’s, Sophomores- 80’s, and Freshmen- 90’s

Friday- Class colors: Seniors- pink, Juniors- orange, Sophomores- purple, and Freshmen- green

Stugo will also be holding a dodgeball tournament on Tuesday, February 17 at 6.

Teams can get paperwork in room 426 and all packets are due by Feb. 10.
