“OC Admin Day” outshines “Mind Trick Thursday”
September 18, 2014
Hocus Pocus is the focus for OHS today, as students showed up to school as magicians and fortune tellers.
Today’s theme was “Mind Trick Thursday,” and while some students got creative and dressed up, others chose to overlook Stugo’s theme and dressed as administration and monitors.
“I think that for the people that already had costumes it was fun,” said Malika Saroya, junior. “I had a costume and I had a lot of fun dressing up, but for the people that didn’t it was difficult.”
The idea to replace ”Mind Trick Thursday” with “OC Admin Day” was spread via social media after the spirit days were released last week. Students pulled the same stunt last year on “Pirates and Mermaids Day.”
“That’s what we do when we they make tough spirit days,” said Tannor Yonker, senior.
Despite their concern for the discouragement the day dispenses on Stugo, staff and administration are not fazed by the students imitating them, they think it’s amusing and lighthearted.
“I think it undermines what STUGO is trying to do, so if there’s kids that want to do it, STUGO should make it an official day, it’s in good fun and as long as it’s in dress code, and it’s not a distraction to learning, we don’t mind it,” said Brad Brazell, vice principal. “Everyone had a good time last year and we all think it’s funny.”
Tomorrow is “Freak Show Friday,” where each classes gets decked out in their assigned color. As tradition for homecoming assembly, freshmen wear white, sophomores wear yellow, juniors wear blue and seniors wear black.
The Homecoming dance wraps up spirit week and will be held at the Glendale Civic Center, on Saturday at 7 p.m.
