On Tues., August 19, the annual OHS Meet the Teacher Night was cancelled due to flooding from the monsoon storms.

However, due to a hectic schedule at OHS, it will not be rescheduled, but instead all the information that would have been available at Meet The Teacher Night will be located online, according to Kimberly Heinz, Assistant Principal at OHS.

Teachers will be able to upload a video to their website that includes all the information that would have been given at Meet The Teacher Night, Heinz said.

For those parents who would prefer more direct communication on this, teachers will also offer a signup sheet where they can call parents back individually.

Heinz also said that this idea goes hand-in-hand with the new technology rich movement at OHS.

Many students and teachers who have enjoyed Meet The Teacher Night in the past will be sad to hear this news, including OHS Sophomore Sophia Steuber.

“My mom wants to get to know the teachers. She feels more comfortable, then when I talk to her after school, she knows what teachers I’m referring to and which teachers I’m having problems with” Steuber said.

OHS math teacher Cindy Knoll also enjoys the benefits that Meet The Teacher Night brings.

“I believe it is very valuable for parents and helps them have their own view of a teacher, rather than just one their student gives them,” Knoll said.
