OHS blood drive saves lives

For many students, donating some of their blood can be a scary thought. However, for others, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime to help people in need.

Thursday, April 17, 83 people made their way to the auxiliary gym to donate blood through the blood drive that was held here at OHS.

All the blood was donated to United Blood Services.

Mia Romero, sophomore, who helps run the event as a part of STUGO said the blood drive is one of her favorite events of the entire year.

“You can save up to three lives,” Romero said. She went on to say that if a student is healthy then they should come on down and donate.

For Brent Jones, senior, saving lives is not the only perk of the drive.

“You get to miss class,” Jones said enthusiastically, also saying that donations have the ability to save a cancer patient, car crash victim, and more. He encourages students to donate next year if they have the chance because, “it’s the right thing to do.”

The OHS Blood Drive collected 69 useable donations of blood throughout the day, which are currently on track to saving 138 lives according United Blood Services.
