Students who came back to school Monday might have noticed some changes to the OHS parking lot situation.
In an email sent out to parents, Kimberly Heinz, assistant principal, said that there are two new drop off locations.
There are now green loading and unloading zones on the north side of Hackamore that parents can use to drop off and pick up students, Heinz said in the email.
Parents can also drop off students in the new parking lot.
Brad Brazell, assistant principal, said that these new drop off locations are designed to prevent students from having to cross the street from the south side of Hackamore.
“We’re encouraging parents to drive west off of 35th Avenue to 39th Avenue on Hackamore when they drop off students,” Brazell said.
The school has also built a sidewalk through the baseball/softball complex that students can take from Hackamore to the front of campus, Brazell said.
OHS administration also decided to build a new parking lot for students who drive to school.
In the past, there had been a greater demand for parking spots than the school had capacity for, Brazell said.
“Our priority is taking care of our customers but with the student safety as our first and most important concern,” he said.
The administration said it hopes that the new parking lot will alleviate the hazard that came with students having to cross the street on Hackamore.
According to Brazell, Students have to apply for spots in the new parking lot and pay a fee of $40 dollars.
Joy Turner, monitor, stresses student safety. Turner said for students to pay attention when driving to school.
“Safety doesn’t take a day off,” Turner said.
