Last year, the OHS Prose and Poetry Club was having a tough run. They had no sponsor, but that did not stop them. The students were dedicated and ran themselves, as they still are.
They actually ended up publishing some of the members writing last year. Most of those who had published writing were seniors who are no longer attending OHS. Copies of the members work can be found on the coffee table in the front office.
It is titled “First Steps”. Last year’s group chose the name because they noticed that the club has so many different levels of writers.
“People who are limited with their skills will improve,” said club adviser Susan Hubbs.
Hubbs said that she is happy to be their sponsor this year although the students still practically run the show. The club is very flexible with the schedule of the students, so they are able to come and go as they please.
The club president is junior Baylee Hirschi and the secretary and treasurer is junior Kendra Condrow.
Students come to the club to do various types of writing. Some just write for fun while others really get into it.
“We have kids writing novels,” says Hubbs.
According to Hirschi, the club allows you to be with a group of people that understand you. Hubbs also said that students get really close to each other through their writing.
“I love to write and just thought it would be a fun way to express myself,” says Hirschi.
Whether you are working on writing a novel or just need a way to express yourself, the Prose and Poetry Club is perfect for you. The club meets every other Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30.
