“I wasn’t nervous at all,” said Kelly Simon, a new language arts teacher, when describing her feelings about coming to OHS this year. She taught at Mountain Ridge High School from 1999 to 2003 and has been working as a substitute teacher for the Deer Valley School District for the last two years. OHS was one of the schools she really liked.
“When I subbed it got me really excited to come back,” Simon said.
Not only did the atmosphere of our campus grasp Simon’s attention but the staff as well. She appreciates the other teachers and members around her who always help her when she needs it.
“They are very supportive. They set high expectations, but they give you the means to meet them,” Simon explained.
Simon now teaches freshman and sophomores. She sees that her students are very accepting and laid back this year. Her favorite book to read with 9th graders is To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. With her 10th graders, she enjoys reading Knight by Kristen Ashley.
