Coach Steve Casey, a new member of the Physical Education Department, comes to OHS from Horizon High School where he was the head football coach for eight years. In his time there he took his team to the playoffs four times and advanced to the second round in his best season with a record of 10-2.
Being involved in football all his life, Casey is a big sports enthusiast. Although he does not have favorite teams, he cares for basketball, baseball and, of course, football. He has 17 years experience coaching high school athletes and 14 years coaching at the college level, however, Casey’s experience does not end at coaching.
One of his greatest achievements was playing football at Virginia Tech in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
“I had the typical NFL dream growing up but an injury my senior year in college cut that short,” Casey said when asked about what got him into teaching, “I just wasn’t ready to part away from football, so coaching was the next best thing.”
Casey came to OHS after Coach John Rodriguez offered him a position with the football program and afterwards was fortunate when a P.E. coaching position opened up as well. Casey will make a fine addition to our school and football program this year and plans to stay for the long haul.
