Nervousness
Excitement
Curiosity
Tossing and turning all night long
Students are not the only ones who go through this. Even with it being his 11th year in education, new social studies teacher Bill Dugan experienced this when he made the switch to OHS.
Not only did he switch schools, but also grade levels. P
rior to joining the OHS campus this year, he was an eighth grade social studies teacher at Sierra Verde. Never having taught at the high school level, Dugan has noticed some differences between his past middle- schoolers and his current students.
“I get the impression that they understand how school works and when it’s time to get to work, they get to work.”
Although he is very confident that he will do a good job at teaching students everything they need to know, there is one thing that makes him nervous. There are sections he has never taught before.
Despite the nervous jitters that everyone gets, there are always those overwhelming feelings of excitement when being somewhere new. What is one thing about campus that interests Dugan more than anything else? He is thrilled to be working at a school with an Academy of American Studies.
“You have a passion for history and that’s their specialty,” Dugan said excitedly.
There is no section he loves to teach more than The American Revolution.
“That’s a birth of a nation, that’s us.”
Just having one conversation with Mr. Dugan would make anyone feel lucky to be his student because…
What’s better than having a teacher who’s not only passionate about what they do but what they teach?
