Six years after the end of The Amazing World of Gumball, a separate series, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, was released on July 28th, 2025. Despite being a separate series, it includes all of the same characters and comedy, naturally preserving the original show’s chaotic motif.
Both TAWOG (The Amazing World of Gumball) and TWWWOG (The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball) revolve around the crazy and frenzied happenings of Gumball Watterson’s life, accompanied by his adoptive fish brother, Darwin Watterson.
In each episode, they navigate through a new struggle, with Gumball often ironically being the cause of the problem. The recurring theme throughout the series, however, is that Gumball somehow leaves every situation mostly unscathed.
The series as a whole includes many different kinds of characters, from mythological creatures to talking animals, robots, and dinosaurs, who all go to the same school, Elmore Junior High. The concepts of each character primarily originate from rejected cartoons and characters for commercials, created by the show’s producer and creator, Ben Bocquelet.
TWWWOG has recently released the first 20 out of 48 episodes of the show, with the remaining episodes scheduled for release at a later date. Many are eager to see the rest of the show, primarily because of the cliffhanger left on TAWOG, which depicted the end of the town of Elmore.
The only acknowledgement seen from the new show regarding the cliffhanger lies in the first few minutes of episode one, where the Watterson family home is shown covered in dust and cobwebs, indicating that time has passed, but not for Elmore. Everything soon turns back to normal, however, after Gumball sneezes from the dust.
TWWWOG has been well-received since its release, but many people were troubled by the introduction of the voices in the trailer. Many thought that the new voice of Gumball, Alkaio Thiele, didn’t sound as perfect a match for the character as the voice of Darwin, Hero Hunter, did. This notion quickly faded, however, with the full release of the show.
Another jarring aspect of the new show is the overall smoother animation and establishment of a particular 3D computer animation that has never been seen before in the show. In the intro alone, it is clear that the creators wanted to take advantage of several different styles of animation to create a much bolder and eye-catching introduction sequence.
Because of the show’s constantly moving story and hilarious jokes, it will remain a significant addition to the TAWOG universe for anybody who enjoyed the first show. It will also serve, later on, as a final answer and conclusion to the long-awaited question of the series: what is really going on in Elmore?
