UFC fighter Conor Mcgregor makes his acting debut in a remake of 80’s cult classic Roadhouse. This version of Roadhouse stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor Mcgregor, with the original starring Patrick Swayze. Jake Gyllenhaal plays an ex-UFC fighter named Elwood Dalton and it follows his life after UFC as a bouncer. Dalton is a bouncer for “The Roadhouse” bar in the Florida Keys and is always having to take care of rowdy customers, which upsets a lot of people.
Roadhouse unfortunately did not get a theatrical release date, and many viewers were disappointed with that. Audiences and critics have been split on this movie with some calling it an overly cheesy mess and others calling it dumb fun. This movie is definitely cheesy and stupid at some points but it is entertaining.
Some of the highlights of the movie come from Conor Mcgregor’s performance where he pretty much just plays himself. Another highlight would be the comedy and one liners. Conor Mcgregor was definitely the funniest part of the movie, and he also gave some great comedic one liners that did not come off that cheesy. One of the funniest bits of the movie was how Mcgregor’s character could not park his car so he would just run into things to stop him.
While this movie is a ton of fun it still has some issues, with the biggest one being Jake Gyllenhaal. He is incredibly miscast in this movie due to how serious he makes his character. Gyllenhaal is one of the best actors working right now and to see him do this type of role is a little disappointing. You can tell he had a lot of fun, but it is hard to take him seriously when he is acting with Conor Mcgregor.
Roadhouse is definitely a bit of a mess of a movie but it is hard to not enjoy it. It is entertaining and you can feel how much fun the actors had working in it. Many viewers have called for Conor Mcgregor to act in more stuff due to how charismatic and funny he is. Viewers have also said that the remake and original are pretty much equal and one is not better than the other. It is hard to call Roadhouse a must watch because it definitely is not, but if there is a couple hours to spare it will not dissappoint.
