First, there was Temple Run. Then there was Angry Birds. And now creators have blessed us with the simple minded game Flappy Bird.
Flappy Bird is an app game that seems to be spreading like a drug. Almost every high schooler has played it and/or is talking about it.
It consists of a little pixilated bird, Flappy, that is trying to make his way through green pipes that appear to come right out of a Mario game.
You must tap the screen to make Flappy go higher or lower in order to guide him through the small opening between the pipes. If Flappy touches any part of the pipes then he dies and you have to start over.
It’s literally a bird flying through pipes and that’s all you can do. There’s no power up. No coins. No special boosts. The only buttons you can press are start and score.
It’s a very simple game that doesn’t seem to have had a lot of thought put into making it. Which suprises me how it has become so popular.
It seems in each passing period I am hearing about someone’s new high score or how they want to throw their phone against a wall because they can’t get past a high score of four.
It is quite a frustrating game to start out with. Mostly just because it’s hard to time your taps perfectly to lead Flappy through the narrow opening.
That’s the entire point though. To make a simple looking game with a not so simple task so that you are forced to keep playing until you conquer it.
With no offense to Flappy, it’s rather a very pointless and honestly stupid game. Definitely not something worth getting addicted to or wasting any valuable time on.
The only advantages it has are when there is absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing, to do. But if you really don’t have anything going on that you are that desperate enough to play Flappy Bird, then you might want to rethink what you are doing with your life.
There are so many other intellectual games out there that you could be playing instead. Flappy Bird isn’t even worth the time it takes to download it. Stay far away from it because I warn you that once you start playing, you won’t be able to stop.
