On Sept. 18, Apple released iOS 7. The new update for iPhones and iPads.
This update was more than just a few changes. Apple completely reinvented their look and added tons of new features.
Design
The first change you notice right away is the color and app icons. They have less dimension to them, almost fake looking. Apple says they are going for a simple look.
This “retro” look can get some getting use to, as the color is bright and kind of nauseating but ultimately makes for a fresh new look.
Notification Center
This is one of my favorite new features. The notification center is redesigned to have more information in one place. With notifications from ‘Today’, ‘All’, or ‘Missed’. This gives you a more organized feel.
Camera
Not only is the camera designed different, as almost everything with iOS 7, but Apple added a “Slo-Mo” and “Square”. Also, there are new filters you can apply directly without using a different photo editing app. These filters can always be removed if you change your mind.
The camera looks so advanced and makes picture taking look professional. This is a huge step up from iOS 6. I can’t imagine how Apple can improve it any farther.
Photos
My problem with iOS 6 was how cluttered my photo albums were. This update gives your photos the organization they need. They are separated by years and then collection within those years such as “My Trip To Hawaii.”
This eliminates the stress of pondering through thousands of miscellaneous photos. It makes everything more clean cut and easy.
AirDrop
AirDrop plays nicely into Apples “simple and easy” theme. Instead of having to save a photo. Then go to your messages. Find the contact name. Then share your photo. AirDrop basically lets you skip half those steps.
All you press is share and click your contacts name. Perfect simplicity.
iTunes Radio
This is a personalized radio that evolves the more you use it to suggest music fitting your personal interests. You can even download the song you are listening to from iTunes.
Find My iPhone
After losing my phone twice in one year this new feature has received special love. Now before you can turn off Find My iPhone or wipe it, you have to sign into your Apple ID. This is a wonderful improvement I only wish they had come up with sooner.
Like everything, iOS 7 has its pros and cons but overall it is a major improvement. I don’t agree with the color and look of it but the new features make it well worth it.
Technology is constantly advancing and it’s important to keep up to speed or else you’ll be left alone in the dust.
