Reading seems like such an old school memory that technology has replaced mercilessly but The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong is a novel no person should live a life without reading.
This is not any typical fantasy story you have read before. The twist of horror and mystery keeps you guessing and wanting more. The Summoning is the first of the Darkest Powers Trilogy. It’s a story you fall in love with instantly and never want to end.
The plot follows Chloe Saunders a fifteen-year-old girl just trying to survive high school but when she begins to mature, she unlocks a deadly secret she thought she left in the past. Chloe breaks down at school and is emitted into the Lyle House for troubled teens.
She meets the other patients but not everything is as they seem. A house with more secrets and buried bones begins to put everyone in a danger that not everyone will walk away from.
I can’t say it’s the most original plot out there but Kelley has a way of adding her own touch to the story that makes it feel so refreshing compared to modern young adult fantasy novels.
The Summoning is a story that doesn’t deserve to be passed up collecting dust. It’s a book that you won’t be able to put down and is well worth a read either by traditional hardcover or bought on your Kindle.
With an ending that will make you run to the bookstore to buy the next book in the series, The Awakening, this is a novel you’ll regret not reading. So get up, buy the series and enjoy a weekend full of enchantment and magic in a world where anything is possible.
