Due to an irregular Arizona rainstorm, classrooms and hallways in parts of the 600 building were flooded at around 7:00 a.m. A small rock slide occurred in the bus lane, near the source of the initial flood.

Lynn Miller, principal, announced at 7:30 a.m. that teachers with classrooms in the back and on the left side of the 600 building were being relocated to the media center until further notice.

“I’m a little concerned,” said Suzanne Wooton, history teacher. “But we’ve got an amazing staff here and they’re going to take care of it, and the students are adapting so well.”

Wooton is one of about 20 teachers who were moved to a different location. After first hour, some teachers were transferred to the auditorium and others were moved to empty classrooms.

However, while switching classrooms would irritate some instructors, others are ready to utilize their new technology in any situation.

“Having the technology now is perfect,” Wooton said. “We can adapt and carry the classroom anywhere.”

Along with the flooding, OHS students and staff  drove to school in severe conditions this morning, and more than one car accident occurred as a result of the weather.

“All the streets were flooded, and I was really scared,” said Faith Stoddard, junior. “I was really concerned that other students were going to get into an accident.”

Teachers staying in their rooms for the rest of the day are Andrejko, Cross, Hudson, Kilburn, Knoll, Lee, Matson, Peters, Stoffers, Verschoor and Wooton. Teachers with new rooms are Bobbitt in Library 156, Donagher in Library 155, Ellis in the Career Center, Haugen, Neubeck, Parrott and Weyker in the Auditorium, McClain in the Middle Library, Whitney in the Side Library and Whitson in the Aux. Gym.  Cardon will be in room 521 for period 4/5, 508 for period 6 and 408 for period 7. Hollingshead will be in room 209 for period 6 and 210 for period 7.
