Caron Moore, language arts teacher and Society of Female Scholars (SOFS) advisor at OHS, has been teaching for 37 years.

Alongside her teaching she has a bachelor degree in journalism, and a minor in art.

Moore said she only started teaching after her two sons started going to school because she wanted to be a real mother to her boys, and now that her kids have grown, she said her students are like her children.

Moore has taught grades 7th to 12th in her 37 year teaching career. She’s taught subjects like social studies, journalism, language arts and she’s been a part of Academic Decathlon and SOFS.

Moore said she needs passion in her life and that her connection to literature is important because “passion is in literature.”

“English was something I was always good at and I have a passion for sharing,” Moore said.

Moore is also the advisor of SOFS.

“I love SOFS because it allows girls to know the opportunities they have,” Moore said.

Moore’s advice to the girls is to “find out what they’re good at, what they like to do, and then to not put any limits on themselves once they have reached a realistic goal that they can achieve if they can persevere and are hardworking.”

Ever since Moore injured her femur about two years ago, her husband has been her big helper. He makes her breakfast, packs her lunches and helps her with anything and everything.

Moore’s husband said that the first thing they’re doing after her femur gets better is that they’ll be taking dance lessons.

Despite Moore’s femur injury she wants to continue teaching until teaching is no longer enjoyable which she says is a long ways away.

Moore said that one of her life goals today is to be a caring and sensitive teacher.
