Imagine a way of understanding the way people act, talk, and react to things. No more awkward conversations or guessing what people are thinking.
MBTI or the Myers Briggs test is a way to identify people as having one of 16 personality types. The types are identified by different four letters such as ESTP or INFJ. The goal of the test is to further explore the way people think and react. It also helps to understand a person a little better.
The way to find out your personality type, is to take a test. The test is in four parts and is very simple.
The first part is to figure out if you are extroverted or introverted. That is what the first letter of the type is. E for extroverted and I is for, well you guessed it, introverted.
According to Carl Jung, a lead researcher for MBTI, introverts gain energy through reflection and time to themselves. They tend to lose energy and tire out through social interactions and other events with a lot of people. Extroversion is almost the exact opposite of that. Extroverts gain their energy through social interactions and events and lose it when isolated or alone.
The next step is to determine if you are an intuitive or a sensor. That is what the second letter is, N for intuitive and S for sensor.
This part is about how you perceive the world around you. Sensors pay attention to reality and rely on their senses to learn from their environment. They normally are more involved with what is around them and tend to focus more on facts and things like that. Those who go more down the intuitive path don’t focus much on the outside world. They like to pay attention to things like patterns and impressions. They enjoy thinking about possibilities, imagining the future and abstract theories.
That’s two letters down and only two more to go. The next one shows if you are a feeler or a thinker. F is for feeling and T is for thinking.
The way the person uses the information from the second letter correlates directly to this step. Thinkers tend to be more logical and impersonal when making choices. They tend to focus more on the facts and objectives that they received. Feelers on the other hand, use emotion and weigh the feelings of their own and others in making decisions. They use their conscious more often and try to do what they feel is right.
The final and fourth letter represents if you are a perceiver or a judger. J represents a judger and the P represents perceiver.
People who are more toward judging prefer structure and firm decisions. They tend to like to stick to their structured plans and the norm of society. People who are more toward perceiving are more open, flexible and adaptable. They are more go-with-the-flow type of people who don’t rely mostly on structure.
That leaves you with all four letters of the personality type. They can be arranged in 16 different ways. All the types are ISTJ, ISTP, ISFJ, ISFP, INFJ, INFP, INTJ, INTP, ESTP, ESTJ, ESFP, ESFJ, ENFP, ENFJ, ENTP, and ENTJ.
